The car that passes him by is flashy and bright red, windows down, music blaring. It’s loud, nearly obscenely so, screaming to be noticed. And perhaps that’s all the recognition is, a thought to a past life of someone else who was showy and flashy and loud and loved to be noticed. The car is going much too fast around the sharp bends of a mountain, but whoever is driving handles them like a charm.
For instance, when he screeches to a halt, mid turn, the back wheels drifting back and tipping up ever so slightly, he moves fast and easy, pumping the breaks and pulling the car to sit in a nice 180 to what it just was.
And it begins to move again, though this time coming towards Alain.
It doesn’t catch nearly the speed as before, but the tires still squeal when the driver pulls to a second halt just beside Alain. The man behind the wheel, with wild, dark curls and sunglasses on and a comical grin on his face peers out at Alain.
“Well! I’ll be! And I’ll be Allgood, so I will, imagine meeting you here!”
What a way to reunite with a man you know to be dead.
