Well this is one such. Totto Chan is a small child in Japan, who was expelled out of her first school due to unruly behavior. However, she gets admitted into Tomoe school, which totally changes her outlook of life, without changing anything in her. A perfect educational system is designed in this book. The base of education should be to focus on each child and their individuality, rather than on syllabus and courses. Although to make it happen, the 'education business' should stop and an urge to enlighten should rise. At Tomoe, students are asked to come in their most threadbare clothing, so that they can engage in whatever play they want in the grounds, on tree tops or sometimes, underneath the fence (being a mischievous kid myself at my early days, all these seem quite normal to me) without stressing about their uniform. Also, they are not required to study according to routine, they can simply read whatever they feel like. Among so so many other things, these two seemed most attractive to me. This book is now part of a curriculum for Japanese kids, as well as the teachers. A nation can truly learn from Sosaku Kobayashi's (the headmaster at Tomoe school) teaching method and enrich the life of future generations. Please read this book if you can. It is easily available in Amazon, in many different language. I just wish I had a school like this when I was a kid. But hopefully, we can create great environment for our next generation at least at home by taking inspiration from Tomoe.
