Well in my headcanons, Miku and Haku are actually cousins! Miku is a very nice and popular girl, and she and Haku get along despite Miku spending more time with her main group of “popular” friends. (Gumi, Rin, Luka, etc.)

I headcanon that a part of Haku’s growth and journey involves Miku noticing Haku is lonely, so she invites her (and Neru) to hang out with her group of friends.

Miku never ignored Haku on purpose. She’s just a bit clueless.

Haku is envious of Miku, yes. But unlike Neru, she doesn’t claim to dislike her in order to take out her insecurities. Neru at first disliked Miku for another reason as well, because she seemed to be ignoring Haku, despite them being family. But once Miku lets Haku hang out with her, Neru’s opinion changes.

Often times, Haku is bullied and compared to Miku by the bullies, who claim they’re “too different to be cousins” since Miku is the “life of the party” and Haku is “plain, ugly, boring” or whatever other mean shit they can come up with. This hurts Haku deeply.

Haku also envies Neru for being so tough and “self-assured”, but little does Haku know, Neru also suffers from extremely low self-esteem. She hides it behind a layer of toughness. This is how Haku and Neru are “more alike than they seem”, even though they may seem to be polar opposites at first glance.
