Middle School Monday: The Book That No One Wanted To Read by Richard Ayoade illustrated by Tor Freeman
Richard Ayoade is known for plenty of creative and funny stuff (The IT Crowd is a personal favorite), and this book is a great addition to his resume. The book is unique for several reasons. It’s a book about books, and it’s written BY a book. It also covers plenty of unusual topics, including capybaras, what happens if a tree falls in the forest, telepathy, conversation starters, conversation stoppers, drama, what happens to books when they get wet, and dragons.
Oh, and it also features shushing librarians. 🙂
I don’t usually recommend book trailers, but this one is extra-cute and it captures the whimsical humor of this story. So check it out!
Give this book to kids, teens, and even grownups who enjoy stories that will make them think and also make them laugh!

Tor Freeman is the winner of the 2017 Graphic short story prize!
After hundreds of submissions, hours of judging and a lot of scanning, we are absolutely thrilled that Tor Freeman’s brilliant short story ‘If You’re So Wise, How Come You’re Dead?’ has been chosen as the winner of the 2017 Cape/Observer/Comica graphic short story prize! It’s a tale of love, artistic suffering and... procrastination. Something I think we can all relate to. I mean, there’s definitely other stuff I’m meant to be doing right now...
The runner up is Emily Jones (aka Emilybob) with her story ‘Dennis and June’.

THE BOOK THAT NO ONE WANTED TO READ BY RICHARD AYOADE AND TOR FREEMAN, ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Read in June 2024
A book about books that just might convince reluctant young readers to pick up a book, maybe even write their own story. It was cleverly witty, in a way which reminded me of Terry Pratchett. The illustrations were rather excellent too (don't skip them).
