Oooh that's a good one! Ok let's see... in no particular order:
Bartender/Manager/Owner/Whatever job at a pub
Specifically a small local one, not a big chain. The sort of place where employees are authorized to kick people out for being jackasses no questions asked. And oh he loves doing that.
This is a go to for me in a lot of circumstances because it's incredibly fitting and can be used in most contexts, only needing to adjust his position in the place to fit the necessary circumstances.
Mechanic
Doesn't it just seem so right for this boy to be covered in grease? Al's a gearhead no matter how he's making his money and spending days in a garage is enrichment.
This is another that I reach for pretty often, especially when his family is in the picture, oftentimes having him working for his dad and/or uncle in a family autoshop.
Construction or Carpentry
Grouping these together for reason of numbers. Point it, wood. Let the boy do woodwork. This is the guy you call if you want to build a deck.
Honorary mention for this list is any other trade. Plumbing, landscaping, electrical, HVAC, what have you, it suits him. Albert is a tradesman and/or hands-on worker always; put him at a desk and he will die.
Lifeguard
This one is clearly not a career type option, but it's a great part-time gig for him. He's a swimmer, I'll tell you that if asked about his sports/athletics too and he's a happy guy spending significant portions of his time by a pool (as long as he's being paid enough to afford copious amounts of sunscreen)
I could go on a whole separate list about good part-time options for this guy, but this is the one I've been using recently, along with a couple others on this list (๐) so it's fresh on the mind
Director
I don't have a ton to say on this, but I can see him on a film set. Camera Op is also a reasonable choice. He's a behind the scenes type guy either way.
This is actually a very old addition to this list. I haven't really entertained the concept in years, but it was what I was working with back when I was putting together my original College AU back in highschool and it's a fun honourary mention here. Maybe I'll explore the idea again someday...
Bonus!
Mercenary/Bounty Hunter/Criminal for Hire
Now, this one is clearly not a standard modern-day, realistic type of option. However, I write a lot of fantasy, alternate universe sorts of deals, and this is my number one Albert Job in those sorts of worlds because it's incredibly fun. A freelancer, working for whoever pays. If you need someone robbed, killed, found, disappeared, or delivered, it comes down just to what you're willing to offer. This one is also very flexible and can be used in lots of different ways, which makes it especially attractive.
