At least you looked cool.
My musical tastes are pretty limited. I'll be the first to admit it -- I listen to the same stuff over and over again. I guess I just like what I like. But I do know what I like -- and I like pop music. Pop music can be pretty deceiving. It's not just Katy Perry or the new and improved Taylor Swift. I like pop rock, pop punk, jazz pop, screamo pop, Christian pop ... if it has a hook then I'm a sucker.
The article linked above says that Tooth & Nail Records was an alternative label, and it was. But it was also very pop central. MxPx, The Juliana Theory, even Mae -- they wrote catchy tunes. Tooth & Nail Records introduced me to new music at an opportune time in my life -- I've always considered Junior High and High School to be everyone's formative years.
I also think it was beneficial that I didn't necessarily care if people incorporated their faith into their music -- that would be a decision I would make later on in my own life, believing that what comes out of my mouth comes out of my heart. But for the young, moldable me, I was happy to have music I could call my own, Christian or not.
