On Jaime and his relationship with the word “son” as it pertains to his three little treasons (Joff, Tommen, Myrcella)
I just reread ASOIAF and there are a bunch of things I want to talk abt, just a little bit. One of those things is that whenever somebody references Joffrey or Tommen as being Jaime’s sons, even when he’s alone with Cersei, he almost always corrects them. They are his king and his seed, but never his sons (it’s really only with Tyrion that he doesn’t make this distinction, but they were in the midst of a pretty high stakes situation during that convo so I kind of don’t count that)
In his thoughts, however, he often does use the word son in reference to them.
So many of these instances, I think, are related to his kind of…it could have been something, he could’ve been their father, but he wasn’t allowed to so that quickly grew into indifference
It feels like every once in a while he’ll have these feelings of…not emptiness maybe, but…what if it had been different. At multiple points in the story, he talks or thinks about having more kids, ones that he could play the father to. The chance is gone for that to happen for Tommen or Myrcella (although he does act a little more fatherly towards Tommen in AFFC, and he also wonders what would happen if he told Tommen the truth).
I guess my point is…Jaime is vaguely yearning, so just let this man’s be a daddyyyyy. George please let Jaime be a dad to Pod lmao I’m begging you
