After reading up on the subject of hypoglycemia in small puppies, we decided to go ahead and purchase some Nutri-Cal for Puppy. Toy breeds such as Pomeranians are more susceptible to hypoglycemia than other dogs, particularly up to twelve weeks in age. The signs are drowsiness and lethargy in the puppy, followed by spasms and seizures. Because this can be brought on by stress, I was afraid the 3.5 hour ride home from her breeder's would be too much for Heidi, so we purchased the Nutri-Cal to give her before starting the ride.
Not only is Nutri-Cal a good idea for possibly hypoglycemic puppies, it also supplements their nutrition. Sometimes puppies won't eat enough of their food, so this product ensures they get the daily nutrition they need. I am glad I found out about Nutri-Cal now, before time to bring Heidi home. By the way, Heidi is the pom puppy I am bringing home May 6, 2012. Her Tumblr can be found here.
