Blood crosses his arms looking at the bookcase in the living room. It had already been prepopulated with a few volumes before he arrived. He was already certain that they didnât belong to Heine, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the language was quite advanced for Morganâs age. He was living with one smart cookie. Blood moved to the cabinet below the bookshelf and swung the doors open, carefully removing an old leather case and bringing it over to the coffee table. The boy sat on the opposite couch watching as the Hatter removed the contents.
âSo Morgan, youâre a fan of chess?â Blood pulled out two plastic bags of chess pieces, followed by an antique wooden chessboard. âAn unusual hobby for a boy your age to have. Someone gave me this set recently after I helped them close a business deal.â He opens the bag of black pieces and picks out the king, scowling slightly when the ornate carving had sections of paint worn off. âIt could use some finishing work, but it will do nonetheless. Do you have a preference for color?â
