Tomato Dosa, also known as Thakkali Dosa, is a South Indian crepe made with a flavorful tomato-infused batter. It's a delightful twist on the classic dosa and makes for a delicious breakfast or snack option.
Ingredients: 1 cup rice. 1/2 cup urad dal black gram. 2-3 ripe tomatoes. 2-3 green chilies. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds. A pinch of asafoetida. Salt to taste. Oil for cooking.
Instructions: Wash and soak rice and urad dal separately for 4-6 hours or overnight. Drain the water and grind rice and urad dal together into a smooth batter. Add water as needed to get a dosa batter consistency. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt to the batter. Mix well. Heat a non-stick dosa tava or griddle and grease it with a little oil. Pour a ladleful of the tomato dosa batter on the hot tava and spread it into a thin circle. Drizzle some oil around the edges and cook until the dosa turns crispy and golden brown on one side. Flip the dosa and cook the other side until it becomes crispy as well. Serve hot with chutney or sambar.
