Tonight we watch a cowboy horror movie. Yup, you heard right, a cowboy horror movie. 1959 saw the release of The Curse Of The Undead. If you care to see an old west cowboy vampire preying on the teenage girls of a small western town, then this flick is for you.. While the local loudmouth asshole moves in on a ranch he has his eye on, the town assumes he is the source of the odd deaths that have been occurring. The local preacher has other ideas, and moves in on the vampire. The highlight of the evening is a 12 year old Highland distilled by Tomatin distillery located in the Eastern highlands South of Inverness.
Tomatin 12 was one of the first Scotch whiskys I tried way back when, and was the whiskey that taught me there was something far more than Johnnie Walker out there (thank God). For that, it will always have a place in my heart, and a place in my cabinet. I always said it was the best value in single malt Scotch, and after all these years, I stand by that claim.
It is a beautiful nose and a rich, smooth, and flavorful whisky. Is it the best? No, but I'll put it up against most other $42 whiskys any day.
