...I think somehow the latest Gunnerkrigg Court arc has become applicable to the current situation of having machine learning algorithms being shoved into all sorts of processes regardless of whether they're actually good at or useful for them or not.

...So

I usually don't engage in speculation and theorycrafting because, honestly, what is the point even when the comic is ongoing and all I get from that is either being proven wrong or bragging rights for guessing a plot point...

(which, honestly, is not that big a deal; good stories foreshadow and leave clues so that they're cohesive and the attentive reader should be able to piece things together; stories that are unpredictable usually are either withholding information or being deliberately obtuse to "own the reader" which is not really impressive; anyway...)

...but I'm feeling really intensely about this so here's my guess:

Sometimes I wonder with myself, what is it that motivates me to post? At times I think it's that very notable things have happened, but sometimes I also prefer to let some water run under the bridge before catching up with all the facts. Many other times, I think, I just want an excuse to talk about something that is tangentially related to the comic at hand.

For example, as the new GC chapter started we're back with Loup and that made me think about Loup himself. What is that I see in him? I think, in the end, the impression he gives me is of a fanboy successor, a trope that I'm sure I've seen before but cannot quite put my finger on. He basically succeeds Coyote but with a marked difference in attitude. He wants to be Coyote because he thinks Coyote is cool and awesome, but in fact Coyote is a total goofball who mostly acts on Roger Rabbit logic.

So, um, for you all who do not keep up with Gunnerkrigg Court (...how do you even read my blog?), Kat has installed a mod on herself and accidentally uploaded her brain to The Cloud, becoming Alexa in the process, so now her best friend and her girlfriend need to find the central server and reactivate her latest synced peripheral (i.e. her body)
