Chui oblast has an ancient and rich history. The region got its name from the Chui Valley - one of the largest valleys in Kyrgyzstan, which borders the Tien Shan from the north. One of the largest rivers of the Tien Shan, the Chu River, flows through the Chui region, carrying its waters from the slopes of numerous ridges and glaciers in the north of the country. Chui oblast partially includes the Suusamyr valley, as well as the Chon-Kemin and Kichi-Kemin valleys. If we talk about the mountains on the territory of the Chui region, it is necessary to highlight the Kyrgyz ridge (the names Kyrgyz-Ala-Too, Kyrgyz ridge are also used), which is almost entirely located in the Chui region. The Kyrgyz ridge is one of the longest in length Tien Shan ridges in Kyrgyzstan, second only to the Kokshal-Too ridge. Its highest point is the Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky peak, located at an altitude of 4875 meters. On the territory of Chui oblast, the ridges of Kungei-Ala-Too, Zailiyskiy Alatau, Talasskiy, Suusamyr-Too and Dzhumgal-Too are partially located. Since ancient times, the Chui Valley has been a center of civilization in Central Asia, thanks to its good climate, abundant water and other natural resources. The Great Silk Road passed through it, and therefore in different historical periods a variety of peoples and cultures found refuge here. So on the territory of the Chui region, you can find traces of the presence of primitive people, ancient Scythians and Turks. There are also centers of religious cultures: Buddhist (stone statues of the Buddha found in the Krasnorechensky settlement, the ruins of Buddhist temples, as well as the image of the Buddha-healer in the Issyk-Ata gorge) and Islamic. Numerous historical cities and settlements were located on the territory of the valley at different times. The Burana Tower is a minaret of the X-XI centuries of the Karakhanid Empire in the Chuy Valley in the north of Kyrgyzstan. It is located 80 km from the capital Bishkek, 12 km southwest of the Kyrgyz city of Tokmok on the road to the Kegety gorge of the Kyrgyz ridge, on the left bank of the Chu River.
