After the last war I grew tired.

Tired of the constant blood that chained me to the underworld,

Even though my blood shone gold.

Gold like the ichor that ran through his veins.

Gold like the jewelry dripping off the throne.

No one thought that gold would rust too.

They were shocked when I ripped the lies out his throat,

Crowned myself queen of all he ruled.

They rebelled.

I expected that.

After all I did maim him.

Mangled his body and twisted his bones into a throne of my own.

Took that gold-plated coronet and turned it into a solid gold crown.

Painted his palace with his blood.

(Red was less ostentatious after all.)

They didn’t stand a chance against my rage.

So they quelled theirs.

Quenched their fires with their fears.

Then the questions started.

How do you kill a God?

The answers were ridiculous.

Strip them of their power.

Rob them of their sight.

Take away their ability to love.

To feel.

To rule.

From the earth rose the answer.

“You kill a God with a God.”

“Era for an Era.”

“Ichor for Ichor.”
