New Year Update
It's already (checks calendar) the second week of January, and I haven't picked the Japanese book I want to read (and finish), I have been pretty sporadic in my goal focus so far, my study materials are a mess, and honestly...
It's fine.
We're starting a new year, we're getting back into our normal routines, and sometimes crazy things are happening. So if you're like me and you definitely do not have it all together, never fear. We will get there!

Never take a common species for granted.
20 years ago the chaffinch was the most common bird in Germany. Now i see maybe one or two individuals per year.
The once widespread native species of Ladybird have been almost completely replaced by the invasive harlequin ladybug. I have seen one seven-spotted ladybird in the past five years.
The european rabbit, a species once so common that they inspired term ‘breed like a rabbit’, is now considered endangered in their native habitat. I haven’t seen one in years.
I’ve lived long enough to have witnessed the decline of so many species right here on my home turf. I can still remember the times when i woke up to a concerto of birdsongs performed by several dozen individuals in spring and now i can make out only a handfull of birds when i listen to their morning songs. It breaks my heart.
So appreciate and cherish what we have left. The biodiversity you see now is just a fraction of what we used to have and who knows how long it will last.
