Delhi Metro| Token counters to be closed to encourage smart card at metro stations
New Delhi: In a bid to encourage people to use smart cards or ticket vending machines (TVM), Delhi Metro is planning to close down ticket counters. The counters will be closed at stations where the footfall is less. To promote use of smart card, during Phase III all the upcoming Delhi metro stations will only have TVMs. Ā Ticket counters and TVMs will be made available on at interchange Delhi Metro stations.
Currently the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed counters at 118 stations out of 180 stations located in National Capital Region (NCR) and Delhi. In order to make usage of smart card easier, they have installed 520 machines at various stations. Those stations which have over 5,000 commuters on daily basis will have both the facilities ā ticket counters as well as TVMs to make travel easier.
Delhi Metro officials shared that in the initial stages commuters might find it tough to operate machines. It is known that TVMs do have calibration issues and these need to be resolved. To make usage of smart card simpler, staff members from Delhi Metro will be deployed to assist commuters in buying tokens.
As per the information ticket counters have been closed at Jor Bagh, Barakhamba Road, Lok Kalyan Marg, Mayur Vihar I, Akshardham, Udyog Bhawan and Mandi House
DMRC is taking this initiative to ensure people use smart cards, this why tickets counters are being closed. This move has also been taken with DMRC getting reports of ticket counter staff not returning the change to commuters and causing unnecessary problem at various Delhi Metro stations. As per reports over 80 % commuters are using smart cards when they travel in metro.
In a recent move DMRC has also started Common Mobility Card facility for the feeder buses as well as parking lots at various Delhi Metro stations. This smart card can be used to pay for travel in the feeder buses as well. There total of 200 buses that metro runs at 40 routes running parallel to metro station network.

Delhi Metro | DMRC to close token counters, plans to facilitate TVM at all metro stations
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) planning to close all token counters at metro stations in the coming time. DMRC has started to install tokens vending machine (TVM) at all the metro stations. DMRC has decided to make all metro stations counterless. DMRC will soon complete this project.
According to the reports, the work of converting existing token counters to 519 TVMs at 118 stations of Delhi Metro has already been completed. At present, the token counter will be available only at the stations where the railway station and bus terminals are interlinked.
DMRC Spokesperson informed about the creation of counter equipment to the stations that the Delhi Metro currently has 183 metro stations and the number of stations will be 227 along with the construction of Phase-3. The task of making all these counters is underway.
According to DMRC MD Mangu Singh, he wants to increase the use of Metro smart card among the passengers. There are a total of 183 stations in the metro, which will be 227 after completion of phase 3 project. More than 80 percent of the passengers currently use Smart Cards during a visit to the Metro.
Another DMRC official said that Delhi Metro has tokens counter at some stations, but they will also be removed in the coming time. He said that Delhi Metro is now turning to countless stations so that those resources can be used somewhere else.

Lucknow Metro | LMRC to run a special drive for metro commuters
Lucknow: To promote the usage of the automatic Recharge Card Terminal Machine (RCTM) and the automatic Token Vending Machine (TVM) installed at Metro stations, theĀ Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) shall be undertaking a three day āspecial driveā from 8th February to 10th February 2018 at all the eight operational Metro stations between the Transport Nagar and the Charbagh.
According to press release, during this special driveĀ LMRC shall beĀ selling the single journey travel tokens and recharging the āGoSmartā travel cards for passengers through theĀ automatic Recharge Card Terminal Machine (RCTM) and the automatic Token Vending Machine (TVM) only. All Metro commuters shall be encouraged to purchase the tokens and recharge their smart cards through these terminals during this period.
The Ticket Operating Machine (TOM) meant for manual sale of tokens/smart cards at all Metro stations will be closed throughout the commercial revenue hours during the three day period. As such, there will be no manual sell of tickets through these counters and the Metro commuters will have to purchase the single journey token and recharge their smart card through these automatic machines installed at Metro stations.
LMRC has deputed sufficient Metro staff and the Customer Relation Assistant (CRA) at the RCTM/TVM at all Metro stations. They will facilitate, guide, educate and help all Metro commuters in getting token or recharging their āGoSmartā card through these terminals.
This drive is being carried out by Lucknow Metro in order to educate and aware the Metro users for inculcating a habit among themselves for using the automatic servicesĀ for a smarter way of travel in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
