The second most fab-crazy-surrealist-hey-hey-hey what-were-they-smoking- that-day movie of my childhood, the only other movie that almost matched The Wizard of Oz for enchantment and maddness was MOTHRA and it’s exquisitely mad-hatter sequel MOTHRA VS GODZILLA. And I revel, rejoice, howl with happiness at Motra’s return in GODZILLA:KING OF THE MONSTERS. Yes the story is almost as dumb and cheesy as the worst of the old rubber suit Toho studio monster movies of yore but!! BUT!! the monsters, especially MOTHRA are finally as magnificent as our mid century day dreams imagined them. Happy summer cinema day dreams to one and all.
