Most kids are upset and depressed that they are not included in the group, that they are being bullied because of their differences.
As little as I remember from my early days, I had a bit different problems.
I have lived in a time, in a society, in a place, in a space where it has been and is firmly believed that humans are social beings and you need to be around people. To perfect your human skills. You have to have that need to socialize inside you. And I have not had it. And I have felt terribly insulted (maybe an over reaction) when I keep hearing that all normal* (there's really no such thing, but let's use this term anyway) humans are meant to be in groups, want to communicate with others, and human contact is necessary for developing social skills, and so on. And I grew up feeling like I'm a freak. For long I used the tactic of "playing along" and being around people while staying in the background, but that made it even worse over the years. Not to mention that hearing everywhere, all the time how I'm supposed to want to go out, be social, and how staying in or wanting to do things and go to places alone is nor okay made me think that I am not human, because clearly all humans must function the same way. Right?
It's not right to keep pushing people do things that they don't want to. Like forcing loners to do group activities. Because psychology, anthropology, sociology and/or other sciences and human studies have painted a picture of all humans as non-loners, wishing nothing else than to desperately be a part of the group. By doing this, you're 'killing' the person, the loner, inside. I wish things were different, and people wouldn't force their beliefs about people on others. BUt there's nothing I can do about it. The damage's done.
To this day even my family, whom I keep on contact, still does not get it. That the same way that they crave human contact (they want to be around me), I crave for solitude (I do not force them to be alone, yet they keep forcing me to take part in social situations, and they still get upset when I decline. Playing the usual - "you're mean, heartless, not considering other peoples feeling" card. And the fact that I have tried to explain to my family how I function, they don't seem to get it. They see things as most do - at school, at work place... - and they get upset. Over nothing. When I have explained my rules to them, yet they can't understand them, and play the 'drama' card, and try to make me upset and do as they please. The thing they don't understand is that I don't get upset because I wanna please them, or anything like that. I get upset that they get upset over silly things, and they don't get it. I guess it's mutual - the same way they don't understand my way, I dob't understand theirs. Not completely.
