People started singing the happy birthday song outside as I was making this and I am choosing to believe that hearing "Happy birthday dear Sasha" is a sign from god themself that the Magnusverse is real
The ballad of "Jon" doe
Together they are no one
So [ERROR] is interesting. Weāre pretty certain itās whatever crawled out of the Magnus instituteās manky holes. However it being Jonathan sims I feel has less weight than it did before.
That being said I do think itās a distinct possibility it is not only āthe archivistā but OUR archivist.
So hereās the thing, assuming there is some version of Jon in the OIARās computer systems (something that has been so heavily hinted at Iām comfortable saying is probably true), then there obviously arises a problem. There are two Jons. One Jon docile and seemingly trying to help trapped in a computer, and another one on a mindless rampage.
And notably the [ERROR] archivist couldnāt be TMPās Jon because of the timeline. When the Magnus institute burned down Jon wouldnāt even be in college yet. Also of course Gertrude wouldāve been filling that position at the time but she seems to be perfectly fine and Magnus free.
What Iām saying is I donāt think [ERROR] is Jonathan Sims, Nor do I think itās from the TMPās universe. I think when Jon came to the TMP universe he was placed in the computer, but the archivist was not. I think it somehow separated.
This would explain the different VA, itās more āotherworldlyā presence & there seemingly being nobody who could be the archivist in TMP. At least nobody we know of/met.
It seems fairly possible that the Magnus Institute in TMP never had an archivist, the institute is structured differently here.
This again would be reaffirmed by timeline weirdness. Why was an entity this powerful just hanging out trapped under rubble for like 2 decades? Well if it has a ācomplicated immigration statusā like Celia then itās only been dormant for a short while. We know people have gone to the instituteās ruins before but that still didnāt loose [ERROR]. If it only appeared recently then itās feasible Sam & Alice were the first people to be in close proximity to it. That good good probably supernatural trauma woke it up, and itās hungry.
I made a little doodle of Archivist šļø
I loveee them. I didnāt finish but I imagine a long, gangly thing with multiple limbs that look a bit like black tree roots or tendrils. Of course, many glowing eyes and a literal cloak of black mist and whispers. And like, make it communicate though some hole in its chest thatās spews horrific, ear piercing static and radio signal and it can just drop-ship knowledge into your brain though the feeling of sudden āknowingā. I want my weird little cryptid back!!!

Ok but like, we need to talk about Alice and the āvictimā⦠(spoilers for TMP)
Iāve been kicking around the theory for a little bit in my head now that the Magnus Institute program for gifted children is meant to find children who have an aptitude to act as conduits for the Fears via meditation practices that can transport their consciousness to the āSomewhere Elseā, aka the layer of reality in which the Fears resign.
I made a past post about this, but for a summery: In the Magnus Archives, the Fears are described as gods from another realm, not necessarily from another universe, but rather in a different layer of reality we usually canāt see or comprehend, but can bleed into our world in the small weirdness of the statements we see throughout the narrative, and humans being able to harness gifts derived from the warped reality of these beings via becoming an Avatar. In the Magnus Protocol, people may channel the powers that may be from the layer of reality through becoming an āExternalā or by an object, or environment. They categorize cases regarding the Somewhere Else as subjects being viabilities as subjects, agents, or catalysts (see ep 9 as an example of this cataloged on record).
Now, I personally believe whatever the Magnus Institute was cultivating, they wanted to specifically target areas of greater knowledge.
In TMA 127, John describes to Basira the ability to see into the minds of others as:
Itās like thereās a, a door, in my mind. A-a-and behind it is, is the entire ocean.
Before, I didnāt notice it, but now, I ā I know itās there, and I canāt forget it, and I can feel the pressure of the water on it⦠when Iām around p-people, or.. places, or.. ideas? A drop or two will push through the cracks at the edges of the door. And Iāll⦠know something.
Now both Sam and Gerard both applied to the Magnus Institute program, but were not accepted. When we saw the ARG Mag Testing sheets from past childrenās names, as well as the criteria they ranked the children on, many being less so on their intelligence, but on their empathy, obedience, and conformity. So my best guess is that they find the most obedient children of high intelligence, those who may be able to harbor great āknowingā and āseeingā about the intellectual comprehension of most people, and that are apathetic enough to endure the possible⦠casualties tapping into the Eldritch horrors may call upon. Then they train them to become figures similar to the Archivist, but to the degree in which they can āopen the door in their mindsā completely. This didnāt go so well⦠like at all⦠taken by the fact that the āprotocolā was enacted and the whole institute burned to the ground. Did they open a rift to this dangerous world? Is the OIAR fighting against those who try to push too much of these Outer Gods into our material world? To āseeā too much?
Curiously, there is a child in the ARG spreadsheet listing the children involved with the āgifted kids programā with the name Connor Dyer, the same lat name as Alice. Many people, including myself, think this IS Alice and her deadname, prior to transitioning.
So, Alice was involved with the program, and her denial of the fact and urging Sam to stop researching the institute raises some big red flags. Where am I going with this? Well, if we go back to MAGP 15: WELL RUN, we see the victim that approached Gwen being compelled to spill out her fear as she is ādrowningā on land, trying to grab Alice as she whispers about seeing an endless, dark sea. Aliceās reaction is sooo interesting to me. At first it seems normal, she sees a dying frantic woman, reacts in panic and calls the ambulance. However, once she sees the tape recorder, she becomes utterly terrified. She says, ā Iām sorry, I canāt-.ā And runs.
Alice, what about the tape recorder specifically triggered you so much? Is it because perhaps you remember this scene? Using a tape recorder, as a child in the Magnus Institute program, to document your decent into that same vast ocean beyond our world? Is if because if suddenly clicked what this is, what has happened to this woman, that she was compelled? That her thoughts were spoken with far more clarity after death because her corpse is being puppeteer by a power which unlocks the minds and fears of others beyond their mind alone? Why are you working at the OIAR? And why did you invite perhaps the only other person you know who could have the abilities the Magnus Institute searched for in youth?ā¦
Ok Iām just thinking because in episode 26 of Protocol we find an Archivist, and itās very curious because most of the Fears and rules of the universe donāt follow the foundation we have from TMA. So that begs the question why have an Archivist, why have such a stronghold Eye server in this universe from over 20 years ago and longer, when clearly most other things arenāt in the neat Smirkeās 14 we know, and the Fears that may have fell through from TMA would be new.
BUT Archivists arenāt just people with special abilities aligned with the Eye, arenāt they? Not really. Jonah may have originally hired his Archivists with a job aligned with knowledge, with Knowing, with cataloging accounts of the Fears. But the Archivist, when he fully Became his role, was a catalyst for the Apocalypse. Jonās role, from the moment he aligned with his true purpose as an Archivist, was to be the physical embodiment, the material vessel for the Entities, the Archive of fear.
And in TMP, we may not have the same Entities exactly, not in the same way. But there is still people who want to bring a new world, what the āProtocolā was made to combat against all the way back to Newtonās experiments⦠the Philosopherās Stone, the Magnum Opus, the Great Work. And I think even without Jonah Magnus himself at the wheel, the Magnus Institute was (is?) trying to bring about their new world with the linchpin of their own through their Archivist, but obviously this didnāt work as plannedā¦
Even if there are different Entities, the goal was still to have these Eldritch creatures fully immersed into the world, which could be conducted by someone special who could be a God of their making, in a sense. A human turned conduit of Powers. As for the Magnus Program, they were looking for children who could make this requirement, be the next experiment if the last Archivist failed. But they were burned down by the OIAR as word got around that they were coming close to fulfilling their goal of creating this being that would bring about a terrible new age.
Sam, for all his sadness in being rejected from the Institute, was literally saved in the end from this horrible fate. This is probably why Chester specifically seems to be targeting Sam in regards to information about this Archivist and the Institute. They are literally the same, Jon fulfilled his destiny just as Sam may have if the cards were aligned just a bit differentlyā¦
I still love this au so fuckin much XD
Look through the Jonatha Martinbelle tag to learn more about it :]
(at least i hope i explained the au XD)
Some designs could use some work (Jonatha and Lena), but this is what i have for now
This is after Celia told Sam about Jon and Martin
Of course eventually they'd eventually figure out the Jonah Magnus in the name XD
Also the clock is just to have something in the background
You can only imagine what the computers think, unless they're actually the tma fellas canonically XD
