I recently turned 30. This tattoo, which was designed by me and @themimsyborogove and drawn by talented DBDA fandom artist @technically-human, represents a new decade, one I'm going into more sure of myself than ever before.
The face depicts the character from the cover of All Time Low's Tell Me I'm Alive album, the face of someone who's had as many highs and lows and feelings as I have. I have been a fan of the band for 15+ years and their music has been the soundtrack to my life, so this feels Right. The lyric is from that album, too, an homage and a rallying cry to let go of the demons I've been fighting for so long.
The eyes, which I have altered, are homages to the characters who have held my hand throughout my 20s. The green carnation is for Matthew Fairchild from The Shadowhunter Chronicles, my mirror and my heart. The lantern, in red and blue, is a hand in those of Charles and Edwin from Dead Boy Detectives. That show made me feel seen and loved and inspired in more ways than I can count.
I made it, and I'm glad I did. Can't wait for the next decade.
