so here’s the Promise card from the wiki:

the visual similarity with tsubasa’s yukito, the high priest of clow country/part of clow country’s priesthood, is striking. including the lines serving as detailing on the edges - at first i thought the lines on the promise card were something like bunny ears, but now i think they’re just decoration. anyway, i’m posting the entire page because there’s something else that i think is also very relevant: the hands.

tsubasa!yukito’s hands are conveniently and clearly shown here. they’re pretty bare. he doesn’t have sleevies that go all the way up, to cover the backs of his hands, the way the Promise card does. but you know who does wear those?

yue.

the ones the Promise card is wearing are a tiny bit different - they seem to taper into defined points, and they don’t have gems the way yue’s do. but they are very notably something that yue wears, you know? i can’t think of any other character that wears these.

and that’s significant, to me, because i’m utterly convinced that the price yukito paid at Tsukimine Shrine for his power was “himself”, in some way, but also convinced that sakura is going to use the Promise card to bring him back or keep him around. i am going to leave elaborating on exactly why i think that for another post, but it’s important to my line of thought that the Promise card is composed of imagery that’s just associated with yukito, not yue. that this promise is something sworn with yukito, that this is something tied to yukito himself and not yukito as a false form or aspect of yue.

so the fact that the Promise card has a design element really strongly associated with yue, when the rest of the card features things centered on yukito (snow motif, the hood/cloak outfit similar to the one tsubasa!yukito has, the promise he made with sakura) frightens me a little. i don’t want the lines between them blurred; i don’t want either of them to disappear for anyone’s sake.

(which is really funny to me because “i don’t want you to disappear” is so much of a thing in all of ccs/holic/tsubasa. especially when it’s directed at people who were constructed for others’ purposes. crying into my hands.)
