I honestly didn't even know that BMG sold the franchise until now, either. It's really crazy how quickly everything happened after ToS has been pretty well-established as a solo game and had a very good name for itself for a long time. Aside from the actual gameplay and my insane addiction*(TMI) to social deduction games I've really enjoyed all of the original stories and characters and worlds people have devised and shared related to the ToS universe. I'm mostly saddened because I absolutely adored TiS and was hoping that it would become far bigger than what it actually ended up being.
That being said, I'm still really happy for the times I had and friends I made playing TiS. Again, easily the most fun I've had in any video game. The bugs in the lobbies (e.g. being able to escape the map and become giant) honestly made it more fun since they never affected actual gameplay.
ToS, of course, still exists. I haven't played it as much these days, but I'm also happy for the friends I've met through that game, even if most have moved on from it as a primary interest. I think my lack of interest in ToS2 has also made it a bit more difficult to navigate, since I don't really know what's going on but also don't have any intention of learning. Mostly because I'd miss my fav faction too much.
I don't have much to say about the current era of the Salem universe since I'm really not even sure what it looks like. I stopped being involved in the greater ToS community ever since I was sucked into TiS and then ToS2 was announced. I'm still connected with my friends, but completely disconnected from what the culture looks like these days. Chances are that ToS1 is pretty much the same, but with servers being a lot more dead.
