Summary:  Auror Harry Potter has a surprising encounter in a gay bar. Written for Snarry Olympics. Prompt: Things Left Unsaid.

Themes/Genres/Warnings: Bottom!Severus. Theme is a favourite of mine; vulnerability. It’s a little heavy handed here, depending on your perspective, but I like vulnerable!Severus. Especially in here. Tiranog doesn’t make it cloying, redundant, or fastidious (well... not for me). The genre is overall good, old, erotic romance. As for warnings, they might lean more towards a characterisation preference, and how specific you might be about Severus.

Narrative: As always, Tiranog nails it down to make everything -from the dialogue, to the atmosphere, to the meta throw in- fit almost seamlessly. I had problems with the story but I’ll get into that in character breakdown. Again, if you like a mix between detailed narrative and austere, Tiranog is for you, especially because she manages to convey many things without being redundant about it. She emphasises and brings stuff up several times, but it never feels old or repetitive. 

Character Breakdown: My only pet peeve about stories is when they don’t respect the Golden Trio. I will instantly squint and be even more critical of a story if they don’t give justice to the friendship between Harry, Hermione and Ron. If I see someone eviscerating what they have I will instantly think the whole story line is not a story line but a plot-device. In this case, Harry’s isolation served to oil up his encounter with Severus. I don’t like plot-devices because usually they lack depth, and they end up cheapening whatever they want to accomplish. 

As for Harry and Severus. Harry is lovely. Very mature. Both are very mature, jaded still, but tolerant and soft around the edges. This is what I expect from two people that don’t have the weight of the world on their shoulders, but have lost and don’t forget.

Severus feels the weight of his isolation acutely, but he isn’t maudlin or insufferable, just prudently wary and doubtful. It’s enchanting, in a melancholy kind of way. I think Snarry is not Snarry if there isn’t melancholy thrown in, no matter how fluffy it might be. 

My Opinion: I do have some issues with this (mainly the lack of a Golden Trio), I wouldn’t recommend it for new Snarry fans (maybe), especially if they are picky about Severus and are expecting an exact interpretation of Severus Snape from the books. This is not so much about a purist interpretation of their characters, as it is a story about the themes it surrounds in the story, such as isolation and vulnerability. As it stands alone, I think it’s quite lovely, and it reads beautifully. It graces grounds of self-insertion, but both characters are well fleshed out, three dimensional, and coherent to each of their actions, which I think it’s important for a story to be good. It’s the classic “two kindred lonely spirits find each other”. with explosive sexual chemistry thrown in.

Summary: Auror Harry Potter discovers a disturbing secret about his former Potions teacher.

Themes/Genres/Warnings: Vampire!Severus. Regarding themes, the story leans towards self-less sacrifice, from both characters. It also talks about control, and endurance. It’s suspenseful, romantic, and amazingly erotic. It’s also sombre, because Harry is alone and the outcome of the War came with a lot of losses. It is a little graphic on the blood, not much, but wanted to point it out for the ones that might not be comfortable with it. It has a happy ending n.n 

Narrative: Tiranog works Harry and Snape like magic. She tends to prefer Bottom!Severus, if her other works are anything to go by, but she doesn’t have any qualms or difficulties to write either way. Tiranog is a master on “making you feel”, and they evoke them like a virtuoso in the story. The suspense is strong, and the erotic parts of the story... well. The romance is also superb. It’s the kind of romance that is not fluffy and soft, but melancholy. It’s infused with longing, and yearning. Especially because of the self-sacrifice I’m talking about.

Character breakdown: This story enhances the more heroic side of Severus and Harry. I don’t know how to explain it, but in other stories you can feel the difference between what they do for the Light, and their personalities. This story is a little more... muddled? From that. Their heroic side is deep seeded in their personality, but in the mundane too, in every cranny of their being. You will know what I mean if you read it :D They are also very... masculine? Idek.
