My first love, my beloved Rudi, who fought off a pack of Alsations intent on attacking 13-year-old me as I walked past the neighbour's ungated yard. Virtually toothless - he was also 13 - this little guy went for the leader's jugular and hung on like grim death, swinging around and choking the bigger dog down to the ground, until they turned and ran back into their own property. It's one of only two pics of him - I don't even have the other. He was with us until the year we both turned 15.
