Recomendation: read while listening to Stan ten feet away from me by Sam tompkins:Â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsSBzTjb6Mw
I looked out the window watching the leaves fall off the trees, the colors changing from orange to brown announcing the arrival of autumn. Tim and I had been friends for almost three years, and the first time I looked at him I knew I would do anything, be anything to make him the happiest, but thereâs only so much the heart can take. Watching the leaves fall off the trees felt like watching my heart fall to the ground and root.Â
No matter how many times I lied to myself that it was just a silly crush I always caught myself wanting to be the one for him, but to Tim I was his best friend, the girl he could always count on.Â
âSo what's going on?â Tim asked me, looking at me with those piercing green eyes.Â
âI... â my throat felt dry, caught with the unspoken truth âThereâs something I need to sayâ I said making my way to the couch, my heart pounding on my ears and my legs feeling like jello.Â
âTell me thenâ he sat beside me, giving me his full attention. Thatâs one of the things I loved the most about him, there was something about the way he carried himself, his calm demeanor and how he never rushed things.
âI can't do this anymoreâ I said looking at my hands, feeling hopelessÂ
âWhat do you mean?âTimothĂ©e asked, not understanding.
âI canât be your friend anymore, itâs too painful, think it would be better if we kept our distance for a whileâ I looked at him, his eyes filled with ache and confusion.Â
âWhy are you saying this? Was it something I did or said?â He asked, taking my hands in his.
âNo, you didnât do anything wrong, thatâs the problem, you have been a great friend, but itâs too hard to wait around for you to want me, I donât think you ever willâ I confessedÂ
âYou love me?â he ask unsure, his hands faltering a bitÂ
âYesâ I admitted out loud for the first time in three years. I looked at him again, his eyes all over my face and his mouth agape trying to form a sentence.
âYou donât have to lie to spare my feelingsâ I felt the tears rolling freely down my face.
âI wasnât going to,â he said, looking at our hands. â Is there something I can do to change you mind?âÂ
âJust give me some time for my heart to catch up with my brainâ I took my hands out of his.
âIâm sorry I hurt you this wayâ he said sincerely, fresh tears in his eyes and I felt my heart break all over again.Â
âItâs not your problem Timmy, you never did anything wrongâ I said standing from the couch and making my way to the door.
âY/n...â Tim called from across the room his eyes filled with all the things he couldnât say, how it pained him that there was nothing he could do to change your mind
âGoodbye Timâ I looked at him one last time and closed the door.
