Ella couldn’t help but laugh at the sudden unexpected compliment. “Why thank you, my love. Although my ass pales in comparison to one as fine as yours.”

Ella rolled her eyes. “No cats involved in this one nonnie, just me and that no good little creature who is about to get her ass handed to her.” 

Ella was on the couch, feeling small where she sat beside Emily. She had asked her fiance to have a talk with her. She had tried making the conversation seem like no big deal, but truthfully, this was on conversation that had all of Ella’s fear on high alert. A shaky breath was taken in. “Emily, we’re engaged and I could not be more happier, but marriage isn’t supposed to have any secrets and I want us to know everything about each other so we know exactly what we’re getting into when we say ‘I do’...Emily, my people have an ability...its an ability to change genders. I’m good at suppressing the ability, but I don’t want to. I want to be open with you and...”

Ella looked down at her hands, afraid of what Emily would say in response. “I’ll understand if you aren’t comfortable with this, but if it’s okay with you...I’d like for you to meet my male form.” 

Ella had gone out to pick up some groceries to restock the apartment while Emily was out. She had purchased a bouquet of sunset colored roses, fresh scented candles, and a box of rose petals. The moment she entered the apartment, the stench of a malicious aura hung thick in the air. Ella set down the bags and proceeded to head to living room where the bookshelf and intruder sat.

Her expression was that of pure disgust and anger. This woman. This horrid creature. She was here! The nerve! Ella took in a deep breath through her nose. She would not lose her head to emotion in this woman’s presence, such a mistake could prove deadly. “What are you doing here? You have a death wish or something?”

Ella brushed the hair from Emily’s eyes, resting her hand on the other’s cheek. “Your lips look a little cold, how about I warm them up for you?” She smiled and closed the small distance between then as she kissed Emily softly yet deeply.

“I know that wasn’t you, but she has your voice. She sounds just like you.” Ella looked back towards the stairs. It sounded so much like Emily. “If it’s some kind of assassin that doesn’t know you’re here trying to impersonate you, I have the element of surprise.”

Ella dropped the pan she had been washing. She had been staying in the apartment awaiting Emily’s return and was doing her best to keep the place looking as good as she could…but then they came. Two of the Seekers…they told her…Emily…killed in action…never coming back…

You could literally hear her heart shatter into a million pieces as her world came crashing down. Emily was never coming back and neither was her heart. Her life, her world would never be the same again.
