Psst. There's a deleted scene in TNOTD that alludes to River having one heart. Also, in the Diary of River Song she notes that she has a respiratory bypass system BUT she's not aware of how it works.

There’s been debate since One whether or not they start with one heart of two. I believe one idea was that they acquired the second when the became a timelord, as two were needed to help the body deal with regeneration. Depends if you take the canon from the books or the tv series as they can differ on that regard.
