John Trudell
Last month, I went with some friends to a showing of Trudell, introduced by director Heather Rae. The film was preceded by the music video for “Time Dreams,” a collaborative effort between the Pines and John Trudell.  The night was meant to be culturally enriching and it most definitely was.  The night commenced with a chant from local First Nation peoples, the chant sounded beautiful though I had no idea what they were saying. The thing that really struck me was, of course, the films themselves.
I had of course heard John Trudell’s work and heard his words, but in combination with the images in the music video, the documentary had a new effect on me.  The film was succeeded by an exchange amongst the tribute video creator Missy Whiteman, John Trudell’s daughter Ricarda Star Trudell, and the filmmaker Heather Rae.  After the interchange amongst the speakers, a man told the audience how they could help with First Nation goals, in particular he brought up a mission they are going on to the Vatican.  The purpose of the trip is to remove papal bulls justifying degradation of Native Americans and minorities in general, as they continue to find their way into legislation today.

Everything about this event was done in matter adherent to various Indigenous customs, from the opening chant, to the subversive filmmaking, to the conversational ending. There is an article by authors Fernando Solanas and Octavio Getting entitled, “Toward a Third Cinema,” wherein the authors discuss this idea of cinema that opposes first cinema and goes beyond second cinema. First cinema is the predominant way of filmmaking, think mainstream.  Second cinema is included in and amongst films that seek to better a situation through intellectual dissemination of dissenting voices against the actions of a hegemonic class within a given society.  Third cinema is an interactive call to arms that opposes first cinema and surpasses secondary cinema.
This presentation in it’s entirety falls somewhere in between second and third cinema.  Though it doesn’t call for an immediate revolution, the event encouraged revolutionary action.  Be it the attempt to subvert dominant cinema and Native American representations, or the call to action against papal bulls.  The event asks of the audience to see the world as seen by John Trudell, to see it as perversion that can be fought against.  The words of John Trudell and those who came out to support him are crucial in understanding the needs and accomplishments of Native American peoples.

Whether the film is to be considered as secondary cinema or a third, it is enjoyable and creates a space for much needed discourse surrounding the hardships that need to be dealt with for the Native Community.
timedreams answered your question: Only Bryan, Jamie, and Jess writing Series 7. I...
what ateacupinastorm said. we need jack thorne! he’s amazing
I agree. If he said Bryan, Jack Thorne, and himself keeping it to the originals. I would have died happily. Even though I do love Georgia Lester. But if it was those three I would have jumped for joy. Jess is fine she's new to things. I just worry about her issues with continuity of character. Plus I do not think she writes Franky that well. I don't know. We will see! I really hope they are not splitting the work per generation.Â
If it's Bryan with Gen 1, Jamie with Gen 2, and Jess for Gen 3. I may freak. I hope they are co-writing. We'll see. EARLY DAYS.Â
Could be interesting to write about why it was Sid Cassie fell so hard for, before the two of them had even had much reaction. I feel like part of it was a choice, she was filling the shoes she was meant to (being his "date" for the night), and then she couldn't turn back.
I can definitely try my best to dive into this.
So many things for Cassie now! LOVE IT!Â
timedreams replied to your post: In Tony’s episode in series 2, everyone says that the girl he meets isn’t real… The sex scene in that episode reminds me of the sex scene between Rich and Grace in the second episode of series 6, and the tattoo Tony has, make me agree, but in a way, I’m compelled to think she might be real. Do you think she is real or a figment of Tony’s imagination?
I totally agree with OP about the connection with the hardlet sex scene. I immediately thought of that when I saw it on my screen, which is why I suddenly was filled with dread because I knew Grace wasn’t real or something was wrong.
The way they shot it definitely was similar. I think it was the movement of the shot. It was also quite sensual. Though Tony and the mystery girl was way more explicit than Hardlet. I agree though it was shot quite similar. Though "Vessel" added so much love to it.
I agree it was shot similarly.Â

timedreams replied to your post: Do you believe s6 Franky is misunderstood? Also, where do you rank Franky in your favorite skins characters?
I think you are so right that her having so much screentime in s6 is part of what turned many people off of her. I still like Franky but got frustrated with her a LOT this series and it was probably just “franky fatigue” lol
Seriously. I was the same way. I love Franky she is one of my favorites, but there was just too much of her in Series 6. She was given too many storylines and I think many people just got tired of her. Which is horrible, because she is a great character.Â
OH MY GOD the background on your blog....I hadn't seen it before. STUNNING. The slight blush on her cheeks is actually killing me. /sorry for spazzing omg
Yees, I know she looks so stunning. sometimes I just stare at her fuckin face, stare, and stare.... It's perfect
Teal! Also I don't like how there are more negative color options than positive! That seems sad to me...
I agree it is sad. I the person who made this up either had low self esteem or really hated people. I guess people can have things in common and be tumblr crushes. lol.Â
Teal! Definitely it's the truth. I kinda dig you. Possibly. :)Â
