“  did  you  dress  up  just  for  me  ?  ”  elijah  soon  takes  the  fabric  between  his  fingers,  as  if  purposefully  going  out  of  his  way  to  touch  anything  but  skin.  there’s  little  she  really  has  to  do  to  have  him  wrapped  around  her  finger,  easily  enthralled  by  anything  she  might  wrap  over  her  figure.  “  you  look  so  pretty,  baby.  ”  

     “wake up. now. i’m not leaving you here by yourself.”

“ I— I’m an awful brother ? ” it isn’t meant to turn words back on xem, feeling the wounding sentiment on his own tongue as he echoes it. “ I’m not, I never meant to be. ” and maybe it’s the final blow, the last thing needed to let everything spill out between the two, both having met the end of their patience with whatever haneul had set in motion with their leaving. “ I know I should’ve told you, I know  it was fucked up to leave. I just— I thought you’d make me stay or you’d tell them and I couldn’t do it anymore. ”

isaiah knows his limits, with certain things, but he so often chooses to ignore them. it’s easier to indulge than restrict, generally more fun as well. but this, this was almost embarrassing. he had clung onto polaris through their way out of the bar, partly out of necessity, partly because he knew they’d let him, arm hanging over their shoulder as he leans against them. he’s not that drunk, perhaps just enough to barely get away with this sort of acting, but no one is checking, monitoring just how high his resistance might be. words humming together, he offers a smile only playfully apologetic towards the other. “ are you mad ? you’re not, right ? ”

     “     it’s  just  one  weekend  with  my  family,     ”     there’s  a  pleading  note  to  her  voice  ,  strained  and  hopeful  that  maybe  she  would  be  able  to  successfully  sway  her  ex  into  saying  yes.     “     listen  ,  we  don’t  even  have  to  play  up  the  girlfriends  thing  that  much.  i  just  forgot  to  tell  them  that  we’re  not  together  and  i  can’t  disappoint  my  grandma.     ”

𝘼  𝙃𝙐𝙁𝙁  𝙊𝙁  𝙇𝘼𝙐𝙂𝙃𝙏𝙀𝙍 ,   anything  but  amused.     ❝   it  means  exactly  what  it  sounds  like.  fuck  off.    ❞    never  been  one  to  sugarcoat,  or  offer  candy  -  coated  lies.  he  wants  to  be  left  alone,  and  he  learned  a  long  time  ago  to  take  what  he  wants  while  he  can.  it’s  a  luxury,  not  a  right.    ❝    don’t  make  me  repeat  myself.     ❞

the way things had gone between them remained a regret that continued to weigh on elijah, somehow increased with how little he’d seen beverly since then. “ I’ve tried to pass it off, but I can’t get you out of my head. ” it’s a reluctant admission, given how he was the one to almost cruelly put an end to it, no matter his intentions. he worries still, even when he’s done little to reach out, only hopes she’s doing better than if he’d stuck around.
