I actually have a lot of Thoughts about what I think probably actually happened behind the scenes that led to episode 5 of The Nevers being such a mess (for the first 40 minutes anyway) but also this is my Nerd Interest and I donât want to bore anyone so tbh Iâll join everyone in saying âugh Whedonâ and leaving it there
This is way too maudlin and maybe giving the show more credit than it deserves, but as a person with just a lot of weird trauma (a lot of it with the mental healthcare system itself) who has been largely going it alone the last number of years, like... Amalia, especially a lot of the stuff from this mid-season finale, especially EVERYTHING with her time in the asylum... that was written by someone who knows how this feels. The plotting might be a mess and a lot of the structure is inconsistent, but the emotional heart behind Amalia (and Penance) rings so fucking true (no pun intended, heh) that it makes everything that doesnât work just so beyond worth it to me.
So, yeah. The Nevers #1 comfort show forever.
