Mistakes happen – no matter if it is life or a tile project. Even professional tile placers repeatedly make some of the common tile installation mistakes. In this blog, we talk about a few common tile installation mistakes and share a few tips for avoiding them –

Loose Tiles –

Tiles that do not bond well with subfloor are loose. You can pick them up, or they often come off, if installed on walls or fall down and break.

One possible reason for that installation blunder is substandard subfloor. If there are uneven areas on subfloor or if it is super smooth or too rough, the thin set will not get a good grip on it.

Another reason is poor quality thin set.

Thin Layer of Thin Set –

Thin set should be applied in a thick enough layer, so the tiles rest on an even bed of mortar. If not, the tiles will touch the subfloor which may cause tiles to crack and break in two.

Moreover, you should apply thin set using the notch trowel only. This is right tool and way to apply mortar on the subfloor.

Using the Wrong Grout –

There are different types of grout available for different application suitability. These include: sanded, unsanded, and epoxy.

You should use grout depending on your project type – such as bathroom, living room, and patio flooring.
