wow, i think horii might be my favourite character of the main cast so far?
the episode where he tries to communicate with gazort really endeared me to him! like my first impression of him was that he was typecast to be the silly goofy clumsy comic relief character (kinda like ide?) but i really appreciate the kind heart this guy has.
in general i'm always endeared to a plot where they try to reason with the kaiju, and i think it's incredibly effective here in a series where i'm already seeing a common trend of kaiju attacking after being disturbed by societal development and human impact/interference. so having someone on the team like horii who can project some sense of emotion onto the kaiju really provides the viewer with what is in my opinion a very crucial perspective. kaiju are not inherently evil, despite the threat they pose.
