Alright well vulcaniac and tiberiustrek asked for McChekov shit so here you go. Warning: Angst, funerals, sada shit like that. I was in an angst-writing mood.
Pavel watched the people around the grey slab from a distance. He should be up there, with them, but he just couldnât bring himself to read the name aloud, not with everyone around. 19 year oldâs eyes focused again as he noticed a figure walking towards him. It was Hikaru, Pavelâs best friend since theyâd first met in the Academy. The pilot silently wrapped his arms around the young navigator, staring ahead. Hikaru knew from past experience that talking didnât help Pavel, he needed to just be able to take his rage out on something. His quarters were filled with small, inexpensive, breakables just for that purpose. The best thing Hikaru could do to help, he knew, was this; just sit with the ensign.
After almost an hour, after nearly everyone was gone, Jim slowly walked away from the headstone, not bothering to wipe his red, puffy eyes. He walked right past Pavel, staring at the muddy ground. Pavel then made his way up to the stone. It was so similar to all the others in this huge field, but for Pavel, and the crew of the Enterprise, it was heartbreakingly different. 'Leonard McCoy,'Â the engraving read, '2227 â 2260.'Â Chekov lowered himself to his knees to be at âeye levelâ with the words, not caring about the mud, staining his trousers. 'A caring friend, father, and partner.'Â Pavel choked back a sob at that part. Leonard had been more than just Pavelâs partner. He had been the boyâs everything. 'Died how he lived â saving lives.'Â Chekov placed the marigolds â theyâd always been Lenâs favourite, they reminded him of Joanna â gently before the tombstone with his right hand, while his left slipped into his suit pocket. From it, he pulled a tiny, black velvet box.
âLyona,â he said, voice catching. âI love you. I have since we first met, and I will forever more. This isnât exactly how I planned to say this,â he managed a small smile, though it came out more like a grimace, âbut here goes anyway. You mean more to me than anything. I would give everything just to have you with me forever. I donât care that Iâm a âkidâ, I need you. Iâm not sure what Iâll do when you-â he stopped, took a deep, shaky breath, and corrected himself, ânow that, youâre dead. But I know Iâll keep going, for you. Just⌠I want you to know, Len,â he flipped open the box, the ring inside sparkling even under the grey sky, âthat youâre what keeps me going. I love you, and I miss you.â He placed the box on the grave beside the flowers.
âYou better give me your answer when I come up there,â he sniffed, half laughing.
âYou just had to come up here so soon, huh? I always knew youâd die heroically. And in answer to the question you asked back then⌠Yes. Of course, Pasha. I love you.â
