This is what I tweeted when I heard the song for the first time in September. At that point, a fwb-style narrative starting building in my head but as I do this with songs a LOT I just put a pin in it so I could pull it out when it was time.

Then we decided to do the ABO challenge in our discord and I originally starting writing a fake relationship fic, but time was getting on and it was getting too long (lol) so I decided to write something shorter (lol again) and to go with my old faithful FWB because I know the beats to those stories really well, they're my favourite.

So I opened a blank doc and started on the new fic. I had some idea how the Beta stuff was going to work and was determined to write it in George’s POV for that reason. I'd written a fair chunk of it but it wasn't finished and the deadline was approaching and so that's when I decided to do the 3 days of 12hr writing sprints where I ended up writing 35k.

During the first one I was looking through my playlists mainly to find a title and found the dodie song and knew it was instantly destined to be the backbone of this fic. So then many lyrics got reflected in the scenes I was writing.

I wrote the bit about them sharing the shower on purpose. Also isn't "it's no big deal" such a George justification for his big feelings? Like, he'll write them off as unimportant to protect himself but in reality he feels them deeply.

Anyway I won't go on and on but basically as with lots of my fics, the writing, the song, and the idea came together at the right time.
