After a long hiatus my wormwood ointment is back. Wormwood is one of my favorite magical plant allies and is the quintessential witch herb because it soothes pain, repels pests, banishes enemies, is used in exorcisms, has an association with protection magic, and is used in necromancy. High in thujone content, a psychoactive compound, it’s a key element in my flying ointments and along with mugwort, the herb I reach for when I’m doing lunar magic or petitioning Artemis. Mine is all natural; just homegrown wormwood, raw beeswax, and grapeseed oil. Like other herbs containing thujone, pregnant people should avoid it.
My absinthe stocks have been depleted for some time so this was a very welcome gift.
Wormwood is best known as an ingredient of the alcoholic drink absinthe, but there is much more to it than this. On testing, its qualities as a stimulant were evident but marginal, with slightly strange edges, and vivid dreaming ensued during the night. Lisaryn is a mantis with really long claws, and Saern is a lil mosskin Lisaryn saved from the infection when she was out scouting the traitor mantis tribe. Saern lives in the mantis tribe and while she doesn't terribly enjoy it, its better than what the other mosskin got. She later learns to use blades similar to Lisaryn and Lisaryn is very proud <3
Phaerena is a snail shaman, originally living with the Overgrown Mound snail shaman but was also driven out by the infection and infected folks growing aggressive.
Sonya used to live in Queen's Gardens, setting out to explore the rest of Hallownest, but she got got by the crystals at Crystal Peak, resulting in the loss of her arm and crystals slowly growin on her left side. She might eventually be able to shoot lasers out of it, but she also doesn't wish to meet the same fate the miners of the Crystal Peak did
Thujone is not native to Hallownest, having traveled to the kingdom after the infection though unaware of it until they arrived
