Throw time back or forward or any which way with this awesome stargazer’s watch from Think Geek! Designed for the northern hemisphere, it shows the Big Dipper and Little Dipper in their constant dance around the night sky. As the website puts it: “with this on your wrist no matter how much light pollution your area has, you can always see the stars.”
If you didn’t know, both the Big and Little Dippers are asterisms, meaning they aren’t constellations themselves but popularly recognized star patterns. Both are actually part of larger constellations known as Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, respectively. (Also of note, these names are common to western cultures, but many other cultures have their own names and or patterns that don’t necessary overlap with ours.)
Regardless of the names though, the relationship between the Big and Little Dippers can actually be used as a seasonal clock where the position of the Big Dipper varies with the time of year. That’ might not help you make your day to day appointments on time, but still. ;)
