Former Marilyn Manson Guitarist Daisy Berkowitz Dead at 49

Guitarist Scott Putesky, who co-founded Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids under the stage name Daisy Berkowitz, died Sunday of colon cancer.

He was 49.

Another of Putesky’s former bands, Jack Off Jill, reported his death on Facebook.

”Saying goodbye to Scott, friend, bandmate, artist, hero,” the group said. “RIP Scott.”

As Berkowitz, Putesky appeared on Manson’s 1995 debut, Smells Like Children, and left during the making of its follow up, Antichrist Superstar. Berkowitz sued Manson for royalties from the LP and was subsequently credited as co-writer of six tracks.

In an online statement, Manson encouraged fans to listen to “Man That You Fear” in the guitarist’s honor because “that was our favorite” song.

“Scott Putesky and I made great music together,” Manson said. “We had our differences over the years, but I will always remember the good times more.”

After leaving Manson, Putesky joined Jack Off Jill, worked with Three Ton Gate and released a solo album, Millenium Effluvium, in 2014.

Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 said on he and Putesky had grown close in recent years and eulogized his friend on Twitter.

”We’d talk, text and he came to my shows,” 5 said. “Great musician, great guy. RIP.”
