His voice is soft, scarcely above a whisper as though not to scare her off. He searches out her eyes, the warmth radiating from his own even if the smile on his face is absent. “You can always talk to me Kara-- I’m always here.” He offers even if he knows that others have likely told her the same thing. “I know it’s hard to trust other people in this line of work-- I can’t imagine what you’ve been through. But I give you my word, there are no strings attached here-- no hidden agenda.” He tells her gently. “Just someone to listen, someone who ardently wants to help and protect you.”

When he’d gotten the call in his head to stay away he’d been worried, but when she contacted him again to say he was in danger... He waits for her in the dark at the location they’d chosen to remain undetected. His older brother had insisted on coming to the meeting. He raises his hands to his mouth, blowing hot air into them nervously as he paces around. 

“This had better not be a trap Cameron or we’re going to have a very serious conversation.” Caelan reminds him, keeping his eyes moving through the darkness of the area that surrounds them.

Emma teleports in first, feeling it best that way. When it’s clear that it’s just the two men, she calls for Caroline-- leaving Anthony at a distance should things go wrong. It’s the first time she’s actually interacted with either of John’s half brothers. Though she can see the resemblance easily from where she stands. She walks closer into the dim light above them, her hands tucked neatly into her coat.

Cameron is the first to speak. “Where’s Caroline? Is she okay?”

“Calm yourself-- she’s near. Isn’t that right Miss Harper?” Caelan questions.

“Look I know everyone thinks you belong back in California--” He starts, looking for a diplomatic way to approach the situation. It would cause the ruffling of a few too many feathers for his taste, but would be worth it. “But--...I don’t think that it’s right that anyone make that decision for you.” He pauses again to give her a firm look. “You’re an adult, and these are your people too-- you’ve got just as much a right to fight as anyone and you’re strong.” He goes on adamantly. “But if you truly want this-- you need to be prepared. You’ll need more training and so help me God Caroline-- if you try to pull anything insane I will have your ass. Mark my words.”

He’d taken to talking through things with Caroline after Emma had gone off to the east coast in search of answers. It made him more than a little anxious but she’d insisted on going alone. He found solace in his surrogate little sister’s company. She always seemed to know what to say. Not to mention, sometimes Emma was quicker to share things with her rather than him. As he enters his parents’ home to find her in the large living room of the manor he catches a grin. He moves over and picks her legs up from one end, sitting down and replacing them in his lap. “Well sis-- what’s the latest?”

“Alright, I give up-- pray tell, what are we doing here?”

The taller man snorts at her response. “Leave it to you to fight me on this, little one--” He comments warmly. “And for the record-- the last plan almost got us killed because someone went before the signal.” He defends giving her a pointed look. “Let’s just remember who’s the experienced soldier here shall we?” He teases, reaching to pinch her cheek affectionately.

He’d be the first to admit he didn’t know everything about her, but that didn’t mean that there weren’t other things that he knew intimately. You’d be hard pressed to find someone with either of their backgrounds that didn’t have some level of post traumatic stress.

Perhaps it’s the brokenness within himself that helps him relate to her so deeply. He knows that sleep is one of the things that she struggles with the most and only wishes to ease that suffering. He knows there’s little he can do other than be there with her so she knows she’s not alone. Something he thinks is a good reminder at present.

Anthony keeps a sharp eye on the man in front of him. He hadn’t exactly been quiet about his entrance, hence Tony’s quick response time. He sizes up the other, weighing his options. He was no stranger to being on the run from something but there was also always a concrete reason for such a lifestyle. Surely, he was an ancient-- he needn’t worry about intruders. He nods toward him, “Care to tell me more about the situation you find yourself in first? Might help me make a better decision.”
