Man, you’re like, the THIRD person I’ve heard from about this—and I went through it myself, though you know how I ended it, and don’t regret my decision, since it’s still going. Is it possible there could be a general site intervention?
You all might be the clever ones here.
I've decided to take a hiatus for now and wait to give the blog owner a chance to figure out a preliminary course of action. I hope there'll be a general site intervention of some sort, but I'm not sure what type is needed.
I did leave a kind of over-softly worded response, where I think I let my "I'm really, really ticked off and sad so I'm going to reign that in by being overly nice but mostly honest" tendencies overpower the point of the thread being not good. At all.
...well, first blog community that I kind of got attached to had their quarterly blow up. Not a good one.
Putting everything else under a cut so that people who don't want to deal with it don't have to.
So yeah, first blog home had another blow-up, still on the same issue, essentially, as the last one.
I'm now all sorts of uncomfortable, because I kind of want to go on a rampage, but still think there are a lot of good folks there, but thread was NOT GOOD.
AT ALL.
Four options:
Carry on with the registered statement of this is not cool, and I don't agree with you on this... but still kind of feel complicit because they really should be better than this, and I should be helping make the community better, darn it!
Stay, but never, ever, ever read a comment thread blow up again, and only stay to the non-dramatic threads. See 1 for complicit-ness. And well deserved guilty feelings, as a result.
Walk off quietly and find a new space, loosing touch with some of the really great folks over there who missed the last kerfuffle. Because there are amazing folks over there who missed the latest kerfuffle...
Do something really atypical, for me, and actually give a strongly worded departure post.
It's tough, because I want to believe the community can change and get healthier.
But, darn it, THIS IS NOT RIGHT. Seriously, NOT RIGHT.
