“-shit, shit, shit.” he cursed under his breath. benny had been trying to be a better boyfriend but his time management skills weren’t the best and he definitely got caught up at work. he’d told natalie he’d take her out for a nice dinner and it probably wouldn’t have been that big of a deal had the two of them not been planning it all for as long as they had. he unlocked the door to his apartment, his eyes landing on his girlfriend who didn’t at all look pleased to see him. “natalie, i’m sorry.”

benny knew he had some strength but kirby had pulled him across the parking lot without him really expecting it. he stumbled into the shop, a puff of air leaving his lips as he shook his head. “thanks for making me look like a goof.” he mumbled to his golden retriever and pushed some of his hair back as he looked up and his eyes met, who he assumed to be, one of the groomers. that, or a receptionist. he wanted to make an excuse or say something that would get off the fact that he was talking to his dog like he were some species that could talk back to him but he didn’t. instead, he stepped closer to the counter, “i probably should’ve called but,” he cleared his throat, “kirby wanted to go on a ride anyways. is his appointment today or tomorrow?”

“-come on,” benny chuckled, shaking his head as he took his girlfriend’s hands to help lead her toward the surprise since a blindfold was covering her eyes. “i swear you’re going to love it. it’s...it’s going to be totally worth it!” he reassured. “i worked on it for a while but that’s because i wanted to make sure that i gave you the best because you’re the best and i love you.” he’d always been one to ramble and he was thankful that she never seemed to mind that quality. he stopped in front of the surprise and slipped behind her to untie the blindfold. “are you ready?”

benny sighed in relief as he set down the last box and turned to look at his girlfriend, a smile resting on his lips as he rested his hands on her hips. “you’re officially moved in and i can’t say i regret asking you to move in with me, even if we did have to carry all those boxes up the stairs.” he teased her. he truthfully was happy and he didn’t think he was going to get the chance to be happy again after messing up his last relationship and struggling with addiction. things were getting better now though, especially with natalie by his side. “i’m really glad you’re here.” he finally spoke in a serious tone and cupped her face after he moved toward her and pressed his lips to hers in a loving kiss.

“what’s the point of immortality?” benny spoke to no one in particular as he took a hit of his vape. “i mean, really. why would anyone actually want to life forever? there’s no point to it. you’re bound to get hurt because you’re bound to care about someone who isn’t going to live as long as you are and then what? you’re stuck with the memory of them and you just keep going on and living life in this huge fucked up world.”

benny let out a huff, “alright, alright. have it your way, nate.” he huffed out and leaned his cheek against his fist. he wasn’t all that hungry but he figured that while he was out, he might as well find someone to take home and fill up on. clearly, that wasn’t happening as long as nate was working an eyeing him from the other side of the bar. “i’ll behave myself tonight but only because i can feel your stare on the back of my head and you’re gonna give away my intentions.”

benny cleaned up the sides of his mouth as he pulled away from the guy in front of him, an amused smile playing on his lips as he stepped back further, “thanks for dinner.” it didn’t take much convincing for the other man to let him have a taste of him for dinner and he appreciated it. animals weren’t as appetizing but it was growing increasingly difficult to find someone who was willing to let him feed off of them. he licked the blood off of his thumb that he collected from the corners of his mouth, “you hungry? i’ll buy you dinner or something in return.”
