Trying to start a life somewhere new was bound to have a long adjustment period, but this was beginning to get ridiculous. Vanessa glared at her cell phone, the soft glow reflecting the time of 2:53 AM -- and her peaceful slumber had yet again been interrupted by the rhythmic thumping and back and forth moans coming from the apartment next door. How many times was it now? Four times in the last week? “Shut up,” she groaned tossing her phone into the empty space beside her in bed before slapping her hand back, smacking the all too-thin wall with an open palm. Of course, it did little to discourage the raucous couple one apartment over. Vanessa had the sneaking suspicion that they weren’t a couple at all, though, because since she moved to New York only three weeks ago, it was always the female’s muffled voice that changed pitch. All of her anger was zeroing in on the faceless, mystery man as she finally shot up and out of her bed.
“I’ll just tell them -- I’ll just tell them to quiet it down or I’ll lose my goddamn mind,” Vanessa began to mutter to herself as she headed out of her bedroom, snagging her violet silk robe and slipping it on on her way out. She left the door to her own apartment open as she turned to her neighbor’s place, fist raised and instantly banging. “Hello! Sir and ma’am, please stop!” She called, too fed up to care that she could be disturbing others on the same floor. Vanessa had been as respectful as she could when she first moved into the building; rushing her move-in process so she didn’t slam her front door over and over for a whole week, stopping her natural need introduce herself to anyone she saw in the lobby -- but this was she got for being a good human. A live porno, right next door. “I will file a noise complaint, okay!? Don’t ignore me!” Vanessa threatened, both hands now slapping against the door.
