they made books on parenting, plenty of them even, but none that were really good. ali had tried to read them when she was pregnant with lucas and again with ava. then again as she and gregory were going through their divorce. the books could tell you what to do all they wanted, but they didn't prepare you for what to do when the sound advice didn't work so well. what to do when your relationship with your children suffered and you had no idea how to fix it. though ali was beginning to realize that things had been strained long before her divorce, and she was angry with herself for that. as much as she loved her own parents, she had sworn she wouldn't be like them when it came to her own kids. there were so many things she had wanted to do differently, and she fell down that same path anyway.
moving back to encino was a fresh start. she was looking to find herself, do some soul searching as cliche as that sounded, and most importantly she wanted to make things better with the people who mattered most. nothing was more important than that. she just wished it wasn't easier said than done. as she stood in their kitchen making breakfast, ava sitting at the table behind her in painful silence, it couldn't be more clear that that was the case. ❛ i was thinking we could go out and do something fun this weekend. just you and me. what do you think ? ❜
