     "Are you for real?" Vinnie blinked a few times, her mind refusing to process this new information. "Uh, what?"

     Her eyes widened, mouth dropping open in protest. No sound came out, save for a meek little squeak. Faith couldn’t really expect her to--to do that, could she? It went so far beyond her nature and even further out of her skillset.

     It took a minute before Vinnie found her voice. “No. No, I can’t do that,” she said, shaking her head. “I don’t fight. Really. I’ve never thrown a punch or hit anyone in my life.” While that wasn’t technically true, she doubted smacking at her sister and pulling her hair in her younger years counted. This was different. This was real violence.

     “I don’t kick ass. That’s squarely your deal. I can whip up a potion though?”

Lovely? Her? Like this? Well, if that didn't have her blushing right away, cheeks pinkening to tomato-red. Vinnie immediately covered her face.

"Nooo," she groaned, voice edged with embarrassment and sleep. "I'm not. My eyes are crusty, I haven't washed my face. And my hair—" Vinnie moved her hand from her face, patting down the frizzing curls where her head had been on the pillow.

Even so, it left a nice warmth in her, pleased despite her disbelief. "Maybe you should, uh, get your eyes checked," Vinnie added, her attempt at being playful.

Oh, it was too early to be this flustered.

"I call this strain Green Magic," she said, proud of her latest cannabis experiment. "I'm still workshopping the name." The young witch held out the case. "Want one?"

Vinnie bit down on her bottom lip, hard, the second she hit send. The waiting was the awful part, her stomach in knots. She tried to ignore it as she finished dusting off the bookshelves. Her shift at Embers & Ashes was almost over, the rest of the afternoon and evening hers and, well, Sparrow had been on her mind.

A lot on her mind, actually.

When her phone chimed, she very nearly dropped the duster in her haste to get her phone from her pocket. She smiled at the answer and texted back. Now or never.

The second text took a bit longer as she agonized over every single word.

[text] do you want to have dinner together? tonight? or tomorrow. or whenever works.

"I don't know if you celebrate Christmas or Yule or another holiday this month," Vinnie began, pushing hair back from her eyes, "but I was wondering... Do you want to do a gift exchange? Not a Secret Santa thing, because it's not secret but like... you know—presents?"

Wow, her face felt hot. Cass had to see Vinnie's awkwardness. Who could miss it?

"Do you cook much?" Vinnie asked as she sorted the herbs from the basket onto the round table in Embers & Ashes. "If you need any herbs, I can get you just about anything." She held up a bunch of beautiful green herbs, smiling as she breathed in its scent. "Gods, I just love rosemary."
