@smolcuriouskitten | title; watch out! (CJ & Roxie) | wanted a starter!
Whenever she felt that tight coil in her chest pull even tighter, CJ did the only sure-fire thing to get rid of it—she ran. When she ran, her problems began to sort themselves out, therefore releasing the anxiety that came with them. It was as if she needed her legs to move as fast as her mind just to keep up, to think at the right speed. And because she was running and thinking and calming down, she didn’t pay a bit of attention to the path ahead.
She saw the figure a half-second too late—in trying to stop, her feet struck the ground hard. One foot in front of the other, getting caught on her heel. Normally graceful in pretty much every physical move she pulled, she tried to spin the clumsy move but oh, no—there was no stopping it.
“Watch out!” she managed to cry out, the sound somewhat strangled with a yelp as she struck the person, with her shoulder and arm. It was sheer luck that kept her from bowling them over completely, but that luck ran out when she hit her knee painfully on the pavement.
Then CJ was sitting on the ground, wincing, knee bloody. “Ah, shit!”
@mcsaiccfmuses sent: ❛ I’d rather take coffee than compliments just now. ❜ (Gendry to CJ)
verse; untitled | title; coffee over compliments (CJ & Gendry)
“Yeah, you might hold off on that thought once you actually taste that coffee.” She gave a nod toward the coffee-maker that sat on the battered table in the break room. “That coffee’s burnt. It tastes like... lighter fluid. Not that I’ve ever tasted that, but I have a nose, working tastebuds, and an imagination.”
CJ sank down into an adjacent seat. “So unless one of us wants to make a fresh pot or go out for some, you’ll have to take compliments and like it.” A smile worked its way across her face as she stared across at him. “Your shirt looks exceptionally clean today. It’s a nice change.”
CJ's brow furrowed slightly, eyes narrowing as she looked.
"That." She pointed. "Where did you get that?"
CJ blinked her bleary eyes until everything came back into full focus.
“Mm, sorry. I stayed up reading until six a.m., then had like, twenty minutes of sleep.” Something in her follow-up smile suggested she wasn’t sorry at all. Vaguely, she gestured. “My focus is… everywhere, but I’m paying attention now. Swear.”

CJ could tell—Jane had a death grip on her arm. Kind of seemed very inaccurate.
"I need my arm back," she said through her teeth, resisting the urge to pry Jane's fingers from her sleeve. "Let go! You're hurting me!"
The sour-sweet stink of fear assaulted her nose, further amplifying her discomfort. Calm down, she told herself. Calm down and think.
"Jane..." CJ gripped Jane's fingers finally. "I need my arm." Especially if she needed it to fight.
"Don't tell Aaron." Rogue & CJ

"Girl." The way CJ said it though, it sounded exactly like "gurl", which really drove the point home she thought. How fucking absurd. "Like I would tell him shit."
The things her uncles didn't know about could fill a stack of books. She was good at keeping secrets. So were most of the people in her life. Twenty-one years of lies, CJ noted with bitterness but pushed the thought away. Besides, it wasn't her secret to tell.
Her expression softened a little. "You're gonna have to tell him eventually. I'm just saying."
“Ah’ve kinda got mah hands full.” Rogue & CJ

Shit. Of course she did. Well, that complicated things a bit. Or a lot.
It just so happened CJ had her hands full too. The boxes from today's parts delivery weren't particularly heavy for her, but they were large and unwieldy.
And maybe she'd piled too many on top.
The stack wobbled, teetering. CJ saw the top box slide, the ones in the middle buckled, and they all came tumbling down.
"Fuuuuck!"
