he’d been in this bookstore several times in the past few months. though his students often teased him for always have a hardback in hand, as opposed to the new technology these days, there was nothing quite as comforting as the smell of new pages. forrest always tried to keep to himself as much as possible; he didn’t like to be bothered, nor did he like to bother anybody, which was why he’d often spend far too much time searching the shelves for a specific title as opposed to simply asking for help so that he could be on his way sooner. today was different though. forrest had been recommend a novel that was supposed to be thought-provoking, something that was to be read so differently than your usual book whilst making you question everything all at once. he needed to experience what the fuss was all about for himself.
an hour had passed and forrest was yet to have any luck with his search. he’d peered over to the girl behind the counter on numerous occasions, each moment hesitating to approach and ask for assistance. usually he had a genre at least to work with, but this one was too complicated to be restricted to just one and he knew he had no other option but to finally say more than just a simple ‘thanks’ after making a purchase. the man cleared his throat as he approached the counter, “are you able to check if you have a title that i’m looking for?” he asked, allowing his gaze to finally settle upon her friendly features. “i’ve tried to find it myself as to not intrude, but... i’m coming up short. it’s called house of leaves, by mark danielewski.” @a-museing-rps
