the man was hired to come after them, not to fall in love with them. the thing about it was, this assignment had been different from all the rest and it wasn't a quick job. he had to make the other trust him, at least enough to get them in a room alone with him, but every time he thought that he was going to finally take them out, they'd do something to completely distract him and make him fall a little harder for them every day. with that being said, he knew he needed to be honest and see what the other wanted to do because since he wasn't planning on finishing this out, people were going to end up coming after him. "hey," he breathed out as he joined them on the couch, "we, uh, we need to have a talk."

brooks had learned to shut off his emotions early on in his job and yet, something about this assignment was different. why his partner was a target was a mystery to him. maybe it was because they were with him or maybe they’d pissed off the wrong person. he’d started turning jobs down due to craving more down time, and so he was sure that was the reason his boss wanted them dead. of course he knew if he’d refused it, they would’ve killed him and so, he accepted it to buy himself some time so that they could both get the hell out of there. “i’ll explain later.” he promised as he shoved a bunch of his things into a bag. “please pack. we have to get out of here.”

brooks tried not to allow himself to get emotionally involved, especially with anyone in his world due to the fact that he could be paid to kill just about anyone in his life and the last thing he wanted to do was get paid to kill someone he actually cared about. though, as much as he tried, one person in particular managed to get through and his worst nightmare came true - a hit was put on the person he cared about and brooks was the one that was supposed to take care of it. this really wasn't something he wanted to do and as he tried to remain emotionless, it was practically impossible as he pointed the gun in the other's direction. "god damn it," he cursed, his hand shaking before eventually dropping down by his side. "i can't do this."

panting softly, he held the gun in the other's direction. the two had wrestled around for a bit and brooks refused to let the other get the upper hand, especially not when he was getting paid to come after the other. brooks was good at what he did and he'd been a hitman for a long time. he knew exactly how to take someone out without anyone suspecting that it was him. "usually, i don't give anyone the chance to say any last words but," he gave him a nod, "i think you look like you have something you want to say."

the other thing that made this situation hard was the fact that she was unaware of the fact that he was a hitman. brooks didn’t exactly advertise it. it could very well send him to prison and so that’s why he hesitated on showing the other woman that he could do better than jonathan. 

waiting for her to lock up, he walked in the direction of the parking lot with her by his side. this was routine. he always walked the woman to her car and he always made sure it started too before he drove off and left her behind. “tonight sure was busy for a wednesday night, wasn’t it?” brooks spoke up, his hands in his pockets. “i just didn’t really expect all those people to come in but hey, it’s good for business-” he stopped furrowing his brows and nodding at her car, “is that a flat tire?”
