Checking In (Kana & Sylvain)
Starter for @dragon-kiddos
Sylvain’s morning begins much the same was as every other morning does, squinting at the sunlight peeking through his curtains and contemplating if he can get away with a few more hours of sleep. What time do classes start again? Oh, that’s right, it’s a free day, he can be lazy, maybe browse the stalls in town, chat to a few ladies and-
Wait.
It’s funny how a long, deep sleep can result in temporary memory loss, and it all comes back to him at once. The mad dash back to the monastery, spending most of the day with Felix then venting his frustration at Lorenz. It all exhausted him so much that he had nearly forgotten to remove his boots when he collapsed on his bed that night – thank the goddess he did, he doesn’t want to think of getting dirt on his sheets. Now that he remembers, his half-formed plans come to a grinding halt and get re-evaluated. Felix hadn’t been the only one to return to Garreg Mach injured, and his thoughts turn to his own team. Mercedes had asked him to protect the children, a job he had only partially succeeded in. Something almost but not quite like guilt curls in the pit of his stomach, and he pushes himself up and off his bed, resolving to make up for it, somehow.
He does, in fact, visit the market, but not with his previous intentions. His first stop in the infirmary is at Felix’s bedside, but finding his friend asleep, he tucks the little packet of spicy jerky under the book upon the table ready for him to find when he wakes up. Satisfied, he creeps out as quietly as he can before he sets about trying to find Kana.
Three unsuccessful peeks behind curtains later, Sylvain finds him. He adjusts his hold on the bouquet of sunflowers, stepping past the curtain proper so he can set it down upon the table. “Heya kiddo,” he says, smile as bright as the flowers, “you kicked ass out there. Thought I’d stop by, see how you’re holding up?”
