our line of work: slaying and the want, take, have
Closed to @kiplingwriter, for Adele & a Buffy AU.
Last night Renee had what could be called a dramatic introduction to Sunnydale, its resident Slayer and her little gang. She hadnât knownâthough in retrospect she might have guessedâthat Adele and her friends liked to hang out at The Bronze, but after showing up in townâsans Diana, her Watcherâslaying hadnât exactly been the first thing on her mind. It was more like the last, actively put there by avoidance.
She didnât want to think about how Diana was dead and it was her fault.
No, better to have a little bit of fun first and then see if she could locate Sunnydaleâs Slayer, the girl everyone who knew anything about the slaying game seemed to talk about. Maybe, just maybe, if she wasnât a complete stick-in-the-mud, maybe if she proved herself remotely trustworthy, Renee could talk to her about Kakistos and the absolute mess sheâd gotten herself into, assuming he didnât show up here first.
With the way things had been going latelyâor forever reallyâthat seemed like a kind of big assumption. Good things didnât exactly happen to her that often, though that was partially a choice. Bad bred worse and she knew bad long before sheâd started implementing her own brand. Now it was more a matter of, she wouldnât mind good things, but she sure as Hell didnât want to be good enough to earn them.
Last night was only one example; fun bled into the slayer-senses, so to speak, tingling which led to a vampire to fight, a borrowed stake and an introduction to the girl sheâd been looking for, albeit not quite in the fashion sheâd planned. Only, she couldnât help the blasĂŠ greeting sheâd given, not when sheâd been so thrown off; Sunnydaleâs Slayer had friends and her friends knew. What the fuck was that about?Â
Was it terrible sheâd kind of been hoping Adele was a little less normal? Maybe.
Either way, Adele was normal enough that she and her Watcher had apparently set up shop in Adeleâs high school library and their meeting last night had earned her a summons by Adeleâs Watcher. Fuck knew how theyâd managed to find her, and technically, she supposed she wasnât obligated to answer, but it seemed like she was asking for trouble if she didnât. There were too many questions, questions like: where was her Watcher, why wasnât she in school, what was she doing here?
Sheâd shown up barely on time, found Adele already there, and taken a seat, getting bored in short minutes as Adele seemed to be working on God only knew what. Ragged but red painted fingernails tapped at the tabletop for a while, as they waited, before she kicked her feet up on to the table and finally turned her gaze onto Adele in earnest, deciding to interrupt her. âSo,â Renee started, completely blasĂŠ, even knowing she shouldnât talk about this in the quiet school library, âwhatâs the deal with this place? Please tell me you do something more fun than well, yâknow, hanging out at The Bronze and slaying patrons. The overlapâs kind of charming I guess, but a girlâs gotta have more, right?âÂ
