Jody didnât like Dark Desires. He never went there, apart from the incredibly distorted headache it gave him from too much of one color on each floor (a usual difficulty with his color blindness), he wasnât a fan of the man who ran it, either. But he wasnât about to let Winter have any kind of upper hand, including letting her know her choice of meeting place bothered him.
He filled Wat in, via text, one person heâd been keeping up to date on his issues. More than once Jody had accused him of compelling Jody into telling the truth. Wat just laughed it off, but Jody wouldnât be too surprised if that had been the case. Jody waited outside, a lone bat headed towards him before Wat appeared, his converse shoes landing on the grass in an effectively dramatic puff of smoke changing from bat to vampire again.
âI donât know what you expect to gain from this interaction.â Wat said, his hands in his jacket pockets as they walked towards the bar. He was here, as he said he would be, and that was enough for Jody.
âI just want the truth.âÂ
âFrom her? Good luck, mate...â Wat scoffed. âSheâs a du Bois. Theyâre all crafty, manipulative liars. Except for Layla, obviously.âÂ
âYouâve dealt with them before, youâve mentioned--â
âNot something I care to talk about, but trust me. Yes, Iâve dealt with this family before, why do you think Iâm coming with you?â
âBecause I asked you to.â
âApart from that... However, now that the witch is out of the bag, Iâm not exactly sure how willing Winter would go to make herself another pariah here. Again.â
âShe seemed hell bent on âmaking Layla payâ... I think sheâs succeeded.â Jody sighed a little, remembering catching Layla in tears more nights than not recently.
âHow is she doing?â Wat asked, sympathetically. âThe two of you?â
âWeâre... managing. Laylaâs not coping in the best way and I certainly havenât helped... Hopefully after this Iâll be... better equipped.â
Wat looked doubtful and the rest of the walk was in silence. Jody opened the door to the bar, walking in with Wat. He looked cautious. Wat looked suspicious.
