I finished The High Republic
Well, I really liked Ph1 and Ph2. Phase 3 was bad. Some books awful even. I'm so disappointed.
Elzar Mann is one of the worst SW characters I've red. It's just too frustrating to read. He is a Gary stu who would never receive consequences for anything he does.
I can't help but feel he is a self insert of someone who wants to be a handsome Jedi Master, be in the Jedi council, get the girl, be a ladies man, powerful, can use de Darkside but not too much bc outside camera he got the key to control it(?, inventor, pilot, fighter, extremely praised for everyone etc.etc etc.
Bell and several characters have whole sentences just praising Elzar and gawking at him. Iug...
I can't belive they sided very interesting characters like Lourna Dee, Vernestra Rwoh, Azlin Rell, Cohmac Vitus, Kantam sy etc. Just to push that awkward romance between Elzar and Avar.
I won't lie. I rolled my eyes every time that romance was pushed down my throat. They even sided the big final battle between Marchion and Bell for that and it wasn't even good.
Marchion is barely a character. I had hope the ghost stuff, his past, his ancestors, anything about him surfaced but his goals are only the goals the plot requires. I can't really care about him. No even as villian or character.
I feel like I read a lot for this last phase but at the same time, all felt so shallow. There were a few exceptions like Tempest Breaker but overall felt empty.
Also, a lot of unresolved plot holes.
Yeah.. Im disappointed
